[edit]DescriptionRapids between Fort Smith and Fort Fitzgerald, on the Slave River - N-2002-005-0038.jpg |
Original caption: " Between Fort Fitzgerald and Fort Smith, only 18 miles, the River dropped 180 feet. This, of course meant series after series of Rapids which no large boats could run. I ran them later, in a scow, and will tell that story in another volume, but our present route lay across an 18 mile portage – in other words – overland.. " |
