Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Graphite pencil and grease chalk drawing on paper by Raphael Ritz, named "A Praz-Graz (Mont Collon)", undated. Musée d'art du Valais, during the exhibition "Se souvenir des neiges éternelles" (June 15, 2024 to October 6, 2024), part of the national event "Watching the Glacier Disappear". This alpine landscape depicts the Mont Collon glacier at the end of the Val d'Hérens, topped, from left to right, by Mont Collon and L'Évêque. It occupies almost the entire sheet, conveying an impression of mountain massiveness, as well as the immensity of the natural world we face. The usual elements of this type of drawing by Ritz can be seen: the inscription of the place and date of the sketch (often with the exception of the year), attesting to the artist's presence in situ, and that of the summits (the notes are almost erased), testifying to his detailed knowledge of the Valais Alps. As always, graphite pencil is used to re-transcribe the landscape, with a more pronounced foreground, and chalk for the ice areas.
