Summary

[edit]
Description Native, warm season, perennial, hairless to sparsely hairy herb 15-45 cm tall. Spreads by stolons, but often appears tufted. Leaves are dark-green, to 5 cm wide and divided into 3-5 broad radiating segments that again divide towards their apex. Flowers occur on erect, branched stems and are shiny rich-yellow, 15-30 mm diameter, 5-petaled and have densely hairy sepals. Flowering is in spring and summer. Found on the Slopes and Plains, where it may be locally common and form dense stands in favourable sites. Grows in shallow (<10 cm) water or mud of intermittently wet sites (e.g. swamp margins); more abundant where competition is reduced. Not a very productive or palatable (but not toxic) feed for livestock. Generally shunned by livestock when other green feed is available. Mostly utilised during dry periods. Avoid grazing or only lightly stock when soil is likely to pug, although it is little affected unless pugging is severe.
