Description
English: Tam O'Shanter statuary group (c. 1837, red sandstone), Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Carved by Scottish sculptor James Thom, it was installed at the foot of Lemon Hill, opposite Boathouse Row, November 10, 1877.

farther brings one to Belmont Mansion, erected about 1743, the Revolutionarycountry seat of Judge Richard Peters, an eminent patriot. Sec-retary of War, and the contemporary of Robert Morris. On the bank of the river below Belmont, and oppositePeters Island, may still be seen a little house which is called Tom Moores Cottage, though the truth of the story thatMoore once lived in it has been questioned. The shady walksof Belmont Glen connect the two houses. North of Belmont the park spreads out in a spacious area ofhills, dales, and beautiful woodlands, and the drive passesover high ground, giving views of the Belmont Driving Park,Park Nursery, and the river, with the marble-studded slopesof Laurel Hill beyond. The old mansion of Chamounix is aninteresting point in the northern end of the park.
