In the United States, Canada, and Mexico its cars are runregularly over 70,000 miles of railroad, while in England andEurope some twenty-four through lines have adopted the cars, amarked improvement on the old system. The Unity Building is an office building located on the eastside of Dearborn Street, between Washington and Randolphstreets. It is sixteen stories high, is fire-proof, and cost about$1,000,000. The main frame-work of the building is built of ironand steel, and is so arranged as to make the very best constructionOf the outer walls, the lower two and one-half stories are of Bay A TOUR OF THE CITY. 89 of Fundy red granite, and the remainder are of the finest qualityof buff-colored pressed brick and terra cotta. All the floors areconstructed of strong tile arches, supported by steel beams. Thepartitions are of hollow tile and crystalline glass. The floors inthe office are of hard wood. The Ashland Block is situated on the northeast corner ofClark and Randolph streets. The Herald Building, the home of the C\\\z^^o Herald, is notonly a completely fitted newspaper office, but a magnificent struct-ure as well. Solidly built, elegant in interior appointments, andreplete with all the modern conveniences, it is a feature in urbanarchitecture. The building is located at 154-158 Washingtonstreet.
