Description

The late afternoon sun warms the ramparts of the old Church of St. Mary of Zion and the ornament over the church entrance.

Emperor Fasiladas, renowned for establishing his capital at Gondar, built the old Church of St. Mary of Zion at Axum in 1635 on the site of an earlier church of the same name that was destroyed by Muslim invaders.
