But Joppa, or Jaffa, inDan, appears to have been, together with the rest ofthis northern part of Philistia, fully conquered byIsrael. Here Dan remained in ships, which musthave been at his one port at Joppa, when this tribeought to have joined with its northern and centralbrethren in driving out the Canaanite host under Sisera.4It is, as has been pointed out, a curious fact thatfrom this foreign and hostile race (the Philistines) theHoly Land acquired the name by which it is mostcommonly known in the Western world.
