A Shiva temple in Dharmapuri

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Dharmapuri is a large village (small town) along the western bank of River Godavari in north Telangana. It is a pilgrimage site that finds mention in the 10th-century Puranic tourist guide Dharmapuri Kshetra Mahatmya, as well as in the Padma Purana. The site's significance and temple fame is also mention in a Kurikyala inscription by Chalukyas of Vemulavada. It has been a major Vaishnava pilgrimage site, considered as one of nine Narasimha pilgrimage centers in the Deccan region.

The Ramalingesvara temple is north of the main Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple here. It is a Shiva temple and notable for an inscription stone that was discovered here that helped date some of the temples.

The local community has retained much of the ruins of the original mandapa, but rebuilt many parts of the remaining temple. Some ruins and broken statues from this temple are on display along the outer walls and inside the temple.
