This is one of earliest stellate plan temples known in India. It reflects innovation and experimentation over traditional square plan, notably in a central Indian region of Dakshina Kosala in the 2nd half of the first millennium – a region previously believed to have been merely tribal and non-Hindu.

The Rama temple was a part of the much large Hindu temples and monastery complex of Sirpur. The other Lakshmana temple is just few hundred yards away, though a modern road passes between them. The Rama-Lakshmana temples site has numerous empty foundations of lost temples. Nearby is a museum with hundreds of temple parts and Hindu artwork recovered from Sirpur.

This is a JPEG format plan and architectural drawing of a historic Indian temple or monument. The relative scale and relative dimensions in this architectural drawing are close to the actual but neither exact nor complete. The plan illustrates the design and layout, but some intricate details or parts of the temple may not be shown. In cases where exact measurements were not feasible, the drawing uses best approximations and rounds the best measurements feasible.
