Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 26 cm; Identification: The rainbow lory has a blue head, a red chest with orange/yellow speckling, and a green back, wings, and tail; Habitat: Forests, plantations, gardens, parks; Diet: Omnivore: pollen, nectar, fruit, berries, seeds, leaves, insects, larvae; Reproduction: Lories nest in holes in trees. They lay two eggs that are incubated for 25 days. The chicks fledge in 7-8 weeks; Social Structure: These birds can be found in pairs or flocks with up to 100 members; Behavior: The rainbow lory is a sociable bird and is also an acrobatic feeder; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: The lory has a specialized brush-tipped tongue which allows it to feed on nectar and pollen from flowers.
