essfullyfilled the office of mechanical engineer at Chicago. J. G. Ndiffer, superintendent of machinery of the (llinoiCentral R. R., has resigned to take effect July 31. The atlthority of this office is now divided between former assistantsJ. E. Buker, superintendent of cars, and k. W. Bell, superintendent of locomotives. Mr. Neuffer began railroad work as a machinist apprenticeat Chillicothe, Ohio, on the Marietta & Cincinnati R. )(., nowa part of the Baltimore & Ohio Southwestern. He servedthis road in the capacities of machinist, fireman, engineer andshop foreman. He entered the ranks of the officials in March,1890, as road foreman of engines and was made a master me-chanic in May, 1892. He became superintendent of motivepower of the same road in December, 1893, serving in thiscapacity until November, 1903, when he was appointed as-sistant superintendent of machinery of the Illinois Central.His service as superintendent of machinery which endedJuly 31, dates from May, 1908.
