g is designed to accommodatethe erection, machine and boiler shops under one roof,covering an area of five and one-half acres. Thebuilding is constructed of brick with gravel roof, sup-ported on steel trusses. The foundations, pits and con-duits are -of concrete. The arrangement of windowsand clere story lanterns, all glazed with heavy fac-tory ribbed glass, of one size only, makes the. distri-bution and diffusion of light all that could be desired.The building is 276 feet 8 inches by 860 feet 2 inches,divided into five bays, as follows : 39 feet 7 inches, 42feet 6T/2 inches, 98 feet 3 inches, 57 feet 2,y2 inches,and 32 feet 3 inches. In the south bay is 6 inches ofconcrete below the 3-inch wood floor, which lattercovers the whole building. In this bay are the beltedmachines, electrically driven in groups; a few of thesemachines have special foundations. Tn the central bayare the stripping; pits, the engine repair pit and rivetingpit.
