The construction of the frames, which are of cast5teel, and the arrangement of the articulated connection be-tween the front and rear engines are also practically the sameis in the Baltimore & Ohio engine. Because of the application of the front truck, it was nec-essary in this design to use two self-adjusting sliding bear-ings to support the boiler on the front frames, both of whichcarry load under normal conditions. Each of these bearingsis provided, as usual, with safety straps to prevent the framesfrom dropping away from the boiler in case of derailment. 222 RAILWAY MASTER MECHANIC June, 1909.
