k, placed at the center, is of mild steel,1 13-16-in. in diameter, with a No. 5 Morse taper. Theshank is geared through an idler between the plates to fourdrill chucks, as shown in the accompanying drawing. Theattachment is used on the job of drilling and tapping thefour holes in standard eccentrics. These holes are locatedtoo close together to be drilled on a multiple spindle drill factured by the Pond Machine Tool Co., and is used ex-clusively for this work. At one side of the shop is the old rack for resting enginecabs. It is made of timber and is supported from below by4x4-in. upright posts. Across the shop is the new rackwhich is made up of I beams; one extending out fromeach post of the building and two laid transversely acrossthem. The end of the suporting beam is held by a tie rodto the post as shown in the iflustration. The advantageof this rack over the old one is quite apparent—the cabsare up out of the way with a clearance of about eight feetbelow, unobstructed by posts.

In order to save time where small lathe work is needed,a portable lathe has been rigged up. A gear was shrunkon the second step of the cone, and a motor mounted onthe frame and geared to the lathe cone. A large hook wasfastened to the frame so that the lathe can be picked upby the crane and dropped alongside the pit where it isneeded, electrical connection being made nearby. An accompanying illustration shows a large planer in themachine shop and is noteworthy as showing four largecylinders being machined at once.
