Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Railway bridge over the canal, Stoke-on-Trent The West Coast main line crosses the Trent and Mersey Canal here about five hundred metres north-west of Stoke-on-Trent station. A Virgin Trains Class 390 Pendalino train is crossing en route to Stoke station and the south. Cockshutts Lock (No 37) here is the fourth down of the flight of five deep locks which drop the canal by fifty feet from its summit level at Etruria. I remember some fifteen years or so ago when this bridge was freshly painted. It looked really smart. What a pity the idiots of this world don't like that. Now it is a very gloomy place on a dull day like today, and not much better when the sun shines.
