| Description |
English: Railway at Belleville Demesne From the bridge carrying the R339, looking south, this is the Claremorris via Tuam to Athenry railway line. Originally opened in 1895, this section was closed to passengers in 1976 although freight operations continued until the mid 1990s. Since 2004 there has been an extensive campaign "West on Track" to reopen the line, and its route and structures have been preserved. It is now Government policy to reopen the route and it is hoped to have trains running along the Tuam to Athenry section by 2011.
