According to the American Locomo-tive Companys new ratios, 25 inchcylinders with 200 pounds pressuregives a cylinder horse power of 2,252. evaporation of 44,330 pounds. Theevaporation of the boiler, 44,300 dividedby the evaporation required, 46,840,gives a 95 per cent, boiler. .Maximum cylinder horsepower wouldnot be reached until this engine wasrunning 31 miles per hour. As theservice in which these engines areworking will not require any suchspeed, a 95 per cent, boiler will haveample steam making capacity. Mr. H.R. Warnock, Supt. Motive Power, statesas follows: With the poorest qualityof coal I have ever seen, the firemanhad no trouble in putting up the secondpop; and it makes no difference howlong you full stroke this engine, thereis always 200 pounds of steam onhand.
