s seems to havebeen looked after in the Chicago & NorthWesterns shops. There is an annex to this machine shop,consisting of a large room, well lighted,with a balcony running all around it. Onone side of this balcony are kept all thebrass parts, brass lathes, and all the brasswork, both machine and vise, is done inthe balcony. On one end the air-pumpwork is done, and on the opposite side all boiler shop. The machine shop is so designed that they could not have a heavycrane in it. They also have three over-head cranes in the erecting shop, of 20-toncapacity, for handling engines and partsof engines. They turn out about one en-gine per day in the erecting shop. Theshop is roomy, well lighted and a ver> de-sirable place to work. BOILER SHOP. The boiler shop can justly be classedone of the leaders of locomotive boilershops in the country, and is a very large,well-lighted building. It is served with alarge electric crane, run at a high rate ofspeed and capable of handling the largest
