Summary
[edit]DescriptionRailway Station, Sheffield - geograph.org.uk - 655944.jpg |
English: Railway Station, Sheffield InterCity 125 rear power car 43038, with its uncharacteristic white roof, sits just inside the grid square. The leading power car is 43198. This HST set probably originated in Scotland and could be travelling to Plymouth. When the 'train sets' entered service they were classified as 253 (Western Region) and 254 (Eastern Region) units. British Rail abandoned this classification in favour of using the power car numbering system, which was Class 43. The InterCity 125s do exactly what it says on the tin and more. On 1 November 1987 a set reached 149 mph, making it the fastest diesel-powered train. |
