Description |
English: In 1884, a group of Seattle businessmen decided to build a railroad line to compete with the Northern Pacific Railroad, which had its western terminus in Tacoma. One branch of the new Seattle, Lake Shore & Eastern Railroad (SLS&E) connected with the Canadian Pacific at Sumas. The other branch was intended to run to Spokane. It split from the Sumas branch at Woodinville but was completed only to a point just beyond North Bend. By March 1892, the Northern Pacific had taken over the SLS&E's routes.
This 1890s photo shows a Seattle, Lake Shore & Eastern Railroad train at the depot at Fall City, Washington. Nearby trees appear to have burned, probably due to sparks from locomotives.
