applications nmst also have a direct influence onthe result, some operators preferring to wait three or four weeks beforerepeating an exposure, w^hile others do so at the end of a week. The obviouscourse to pursue is to observe carefully the condition requiring the treat-ment. If the ulcer is growing rapidly extreme measures must be adopted.The dose should be the maximum possible and should be repeated at theearliest convenient date. The edges of the ulcer may be given an excessivedose by protecting the less active part with lead rubber; the healthy skin,all but that close to the edge of the grow-th, must also be guarded. Thedegree of reaction induced will depend upon several factors, (a) the durationof the exposm-e, (6) the hardness of the X-ray bulb, (c) the filtration employed;each of these factors must receive special consideration. In superficial conditions the first dose should be given mifiltered, anda full pastille dose given. If possible, it is well to wait for fourteen days
