eritoneal bands or adhesions must also be considered. These may besuspected when during an examination any particular part of the organappears to be unduly fixed, or when the whole organ is relatively higher thannormal. These adhesions are a frequent accompaniment of healed gastriculcer, inflammatory conditions of the gall-bladder, etc. Ptosis.—The most obvious and frequent change noted in the stomachis that of ptosis. Then great dilation may follow, though the atony maybe compensated for by muscular hypertrophy. In ptosis with atony thestomach is incapable of emptying itselffor six to eight hours, or even longer, after ingestion of the meal.
