Text Appearing After Image:
PLATE X.—Fractures in Region of the Shoulder-joint. a, Fracture through great tuberosity.h, Exostosis of angle of scapula. c, Fracture (stellate) of body of scapula ; the detail has been lost in reproduction. d. Fracture at upper end of shaft of humerus, there is no displacement. Note the epiphyseal line of headof humerus. FRACTURES OF THE VERTEBRAE 157 the injury. An antero-posterior view is also useful. Stereoscopic picturesmay be necessary. A small piece of X-ray film placed in contact with theside of the nose will give a sharp picture. Injuries of the Cervical Vertebrae.—Two positions have alreadybeen described. The lateral is the most useful, for it shows readily veryslight departures from the normal. Fracture dislocation of the cervical vertebrae is a not uncommon in-jury. Any part of the cervical region may be the seat of a dislocation. The appearances are unmistakable when well marked, but the doubt-ful cases give rise toconsiderable difficulty indiagnosis.
