Italiano: STATUA NYELENI - Figura femminile dal lungo busto sottile, seni conici e bottone ombelicale in evidenza. Le braccia anch'esse lunghe e sottili scendono parallele e discoste dal corpo. Gli arti inferiori sono corti, le natiche rotonde. La testa presenta un'acconciatura a cupola con due trecce laterali. Volto convesso che si sviluppa sotto la linea aggettante dell'arcata sopraccigliare che incontra la perpendicolare del naso.
Le statue nyeleni sono scolpite dai fabbri ed esposte publicamente dai giovani iniziati della società jo le cui celebrazioni si tengono ogni sette anni: attestano il loro ingresso nella vita adulta e il loro desiderio di trovare moglie: le statue sono una rappresentazione idealizzata della bellezza femminile (""nyeleni"" significa ""la bella piccolina""). Queste figure appaiono in pubblico abbigliate e ornate di monili. Anche le donne fanno parte della società jo ma con un appendistato molto più ridotto. |
