Description
Italiano: Figura antropomorfa, in posizione eretta, con braccia mobili fissate con chiodi, palmi delle mani rivolti verso l'alto. Acconciatura o copricapo conico, fronte bombata e volto convesso con movimento aggettante della mascella che sottolinea la bocca. Ombelico sporgente in evidenza. Patina rossastra. Figura utlizzata negli spettacoli di marionette perlopiù volti al divertimento, ma realizzati anche in occasione di cerimonie religiose. Secondo Talbot (1923), il teatro delle marionette avrebbe per gli Ibibio la sua origine nel mondo dei morti. Spesso l'intento è satirico e oggetto di critica sono i villaggi e le popolazioni vicine (Igbo), gli amministratori, i commercianti musulmani hausa, i missionari. Le situazioni rappresentate hanno spesso come temi la stupidità, il dominio, l'alcolismo, la gelosia, la sterilità e così via (Darkowska-Nidzgorski 1980).
