Italiano: MASCHERA facciale antropomorfa di forma ovale con terminazione inferiore a punta; ampia fronte bombata, grandi cavità oculari circolari e grandi labbra carnose socchiuse. Nella parte inferiore una barba di fibre vegetali intrecciate; lungo il perimetro fori che consentono di attaccare la maschera al costume.
Le maschere dan con occhi circolari sono solitamente riconducibili a due possibili funzioni: maschere per la corsa (gunyege) e maschere adibite al controllo dei fuochi. Essendo le abitazioni costruite in legno e altri materiali vegetali, il rischio di incendi, in particolare nella stagione secca è molto alto. Le maschere hanno funzione di controllo e prevenzione e puniscono le donne che si attardano in cucina battendole e rovesciando le loro pentole sul fuoco. In genere le maschere per la corsa (competizioni che vedono impegnati i giovani del villaggio) hanno fori oculari più grandi che consentono di identificare chi le porta. |
