Description This plate may be an earlier version of the current Russian style plate as it is non reflective. The number "34" on the right denotes this plate as being issued in the city of Volgograd and the surrounding region (Oblast) once known as Stalingrad or "Stalin's City" In 1961 the Khrushchev government renamed the city to Volgograd. The city is famous for it's siege under the Nazi's in 1942-43 after which they lost to the Red Army, the Nazis suffering heavy losses which was a major turning point in World War II. The heavy loss of men and equipment at Stalingrad was the beginning of the end for the Third Reich.
