Summary

[edit]
Description

The Raven UAV "has about 50 minutes of flight time on a battery. The kit comes with spare batteries and a charger so [the crew] can land it, pop in a spare and get it back in the air. It can go as fast as 90 [k/h], but usually cruises between 40 and 50. It can go as far as 15 kilometers from its controller on the ground, and usually flies a pre-programmed route, using GPS for navigation. Three different cameras can attach to the plane [electrical optical, infrared (nose), and a side-mounted IR]. The camera does not have zoom capability and is unable to lock on a target, but provides enough resolution to show someone carrying a weapon. Ravens are easily hand-launched by turning on the motor and throwing it in the air. It lands by coming back to ground at a point designated by GPS location. . . On average, a Raven aircraft can survive about 200 landings before it breaks something."
