[edit]DescriptionRKO backlot Mayberry bank.jpg | 2D image, exported from a 3D model, of a building that once existed, until 1976, on the now demolished RKO Studios backlot called Forty Acres. Typical of most sets on a film backlot, this structure was ostensibly a facade only, with no practical roof or interior, which was why the third floor windows were blanked out. The building was used as a film set and appeared on television's The Andy Griffith Show as the Mayberry Bank. It was first seen in the 1939 cinema classic Gone with the Wind as the National Hotel, in a dramatic scene that witnesses the Siege of Atlanta; and appeared again on Star Trek's episode of The City on the Edge of Forever, in which Captain Kirk and Commander Spock emerge through time into 1930s New York. Star Trek fans will recognize the boxing poster that appeared in that scene, to the right of the bank entrance. |
