Description
Italiano: Notizie storico-critiche: Antonio Maffei è figura di grande rilievo nella cultura valtellinese dell'Ottocento: oltre a reggere l'arcipretura, si dedicò ad una intensa attività di studioso. Ebbe un ruolo importante nell'istituzione del Comitato per gli Studi Archeologici, di cui fu vicepresidente ed attivo promotore insieme al Caimi. Il ritratto utilizza lo schema della figura in piedi, presentando il sacerdote con un tono austero e una certa maestosità. Da notare l'assenza del pastorale, sostituito da un libro che il Maffei tiene in mano. Notevole, come sempre, la cura nella descrizione dei pizzi e delle pieghe. La tela assume come base il ritratto a mezzo busto, eseguito dal Caimi nel 1847.
