Summary

[edit]
Description
English: RFA Argus trainess Afghan vertran squadron

857 NAS from RNAS Culdrose, Helston, Cornwall joined RFA Argus for 2 weeks of flight deck and sea training off the south west coast. 857 NAS have not been to sea as a squadron in over 4 years due to back to back deployments in Afghanistan. Two seaking mark 5's or better known as as "Bagger's" joined RFA Argus for the two week training package known as DLT (Deck Landing Training). Nearly 40 percent of the crew had never stepped onto a Naval Warship, which has left going to sea a very new exerience for many.

After the two weeks intensive training, 857 NAS will return to RNAS Culdrose for a well deserved summer break, before deploying onto another Royal Navy warship. Whilst on board RFA Argus, the squadron will be supported Royal Navy personnel from MASF (Maritime Aviation Support Force), who are also based at RNAS Culsdrose, but are attached to the ship for longer periods of time, to help deliver vital training and experience.
