Description

Teatre Poliorama Rambla dels Estudis, 115 08002 Barcelona

Aquest edifici neix de la reforma de l'edifici de la Reial Acadèmia de Ciències i Arts, fundada el 1764. El 1883 Josep Domènech i Estapà va projectar una reforma total, incloent mobles, ornaments i vitralls. Va refer-se la façana. Rafael Atché va crear genis alats (el de la ciència amb un compàs i el de les arts amb una escultura) fets en ciment. Francesc Font i Pons va crear els relleus de terracota i els tondi. El projecte inicial prevaia contruir una torre central més alta, però finalment van fer dues torres més estretes per allotjar els observatoris astronòmic i meteorològic. El rellotge va instal·lar-se el 1891 i dóna l'hora oficial de Barcelona.

El 1922 van inaugurar un cinema als baixos, el Cine Martí, que després va convertir-se en el Teatre Català de la Comèdia, i posteriorment en el Poliorama.
