Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Here RAF technicians from No 99 Squadron based at RAF Brize Norton, carried out some late night repairs to an engine on one of the squadron's C-17 aircraft.

RAF aircraft were heavily involved in the build-up of UK forces in Southern Afghanistan as part of Operation Herrick - then in its third phase - saw the creation of a 9,000-strong Multi-National Brigade (South) which was led by Canada and centred on the southern Afghan province of Helmand. Other nations involved were the UK, Estonia, Romania and the United States who eventually withdrew to concentrate on other operations.

Operation Herrick was the name given to UK military operations in Afghanistan over this period.
