Description
English: Interior of St Columba's parish church, Topcliffe, North Yorkshire. The plaque on the wall is a monument installed in 2002 in memory of the crash on 10 October 1956 of RAF WX 545: a Lockheed Neptune reconnaisance aircraft that hit a hillside on the Mull of Kintyre with the loss of all nine crew.
The plaque was made by Bob Hunter, who lives near Topcliffe village. Bob was an formerly an apprentice of "Mouse man", Thomson of North Yorkshire. The man with his back to the camera talking to his son is Ian Kirk. Ian had been a member of the crew until a week before the incident. He died in April 2010.
