Römisches Haus im Park an der Ilm in Weimar

Als erstes klassizistisches Gebäude in Weimar überhaupt wurde es 1792-97 nach einem Entwurf von Johann August Arens errichtet, der auch am Bau des Stadtschlosses beteiligt war. Goethe brachte - inspiriert durch seine Italienreise - wertvolle Ideen zu den Säulen, Reliefs und antikisierenden Giebeln des Bauwerks ein. Der tempelartige Baukörper mit festlich gestaltetem Inneren und offener Halle steht senkrecht am Hang mit einem in dorischen Formen gestalteten Durchgang. Er entstand aus dem Bedürfnis Herzog Carl Augusts, ein repräsentatives Parkhaus zu besitzen, in das er sich zurückziehen konnte.
