Description

Cuenta la historia que en esta quinta asesinaron a Doña Inés de Castro, la novia de Pedro I de Portugal, a su vez hijo de Afonso IV de Portugal. Este último fue quien la mandó matar porque no quería que su hijo anduviera con una española (castellana, para ser más precisos) porque se corría el riesgo de que la Corona cayera en manos castellanas más tarde. La cosa fue que a Don Pedro no le gustó que le mataran la novia e inició una "revolución" para destronar al papá, pero finalmente ganó Afonso. Irremediablemente Afonso (IV) murió un año después y Don Pedro (I) pasó a ser rey. Lo primero que hizo fue buscar a los que habían matado a Inés (aunque uno de los tres se alcanzó a volar) y arrancarles el corazón. Luego desenterró a la Inés y la coronó reina (aún después de muerta) y obligó a todo el mundo (nobleza y clero) a besarle la mano (bueno, los huesos).

En esta fuente (fonte das lágrimas) mataron a Doña Inés (un poquito más a la derecha de esta foto) y dicen que el tono rojizo de la piedra del fondo de la fuente es la mancha de sangre de la Reina que no se ha borrado con el pasar de los años (los hechos narrados ocurrieron al rededor de 1345).
