English: Quilt; double-bed size; 'Dresden plate' design executed in sixteen square patches; 1930s-40s printed cotton fabrics on cream cotton ground with circular cream cotton centres each with quatrefoil motif quilted in cream cotton; each finished patch approximately 12 inches square and joined together (no sashing) five across and six down; with deep cream cotton border (approximately 200 mm) quilted in cream cotton with large zig zag motif with quatrefoil motifs in each 'V' section; the back of plain cream cotton with quilted motifs echoing those on upper surface; all hand quilted; with some damaged panels replaced with sympathetic modern fabrics which have been tea-dyed to simulate age. Accompanied by ten irregularly shaped fabric pieces used by donor to repair the quilt. Most have been tea dyed to simulate age. (.5) has evidence of seams etc suggesting that it was part of an item of clothing.Details are as follows- (.2) fabric piece; irregular shape; cream ground with small brown spots and small floral sprigs in brown-red-yellow-green (.3) fabric piece; irregular shape; pale beige ground with small floral sprigs in greens and browns (.4) fabric piece; irregular shape; cream ground with allover closely spaced floral pattern in blues-light brown- orange-green (.5) fabric piece; irregular shape; cream ground with small black spots and bright floral pattern in pinks and greys with smaller florals and leaves in black-green-pinks (.6) fabric piece; irregular shape; plum ground with allover floral pattern in pinks-creams and pale greens (.7) fabric piece; irregular shape; cream ground with sparsely-spaced pattern of pink floral sprigs and greek key patterns in pink (.8) fabric piece; irregular shape; cream ground with allover pattern of stylised pink five petalled flowers (.9) fabric piece; irregular shape; cream ground with allover pattern of stylised pale pink floral sprigs (.10) fabric piece; irregular shape; cream ground with pattern of cross hatching in mauve interspersed with arrangements of floral sprigs in mauve, blue and green (.11) irregular shape; as above except white ground
