| Description |
The Oates family were a merchant family and like all merchants they liked to keep costs down so when they had the chance to move into Queens Court they did. They lived there for a number of years it was more than just there home it was a place where the cloth could be processed and bailed and all the paperwork that went along with it could be done. Queens Court is located at the bottom of Briggate which was right next to where to Cloth Market used to be held. It was named after Queen Anne and is a rare survival of the type of mixed housing and workshop complex built in restricted areas of the centre of Leeds in the later C18 and C19. |
