Queens Boulevard at 53rd Street, looking toward Queensboro Bridge and Manhattan. Empire State Building stands in the distance. I am staying at the Quality Inn just behind my right shoulder. Queens Boulevard is a major thoroughfare, forming Route 25. To the north, Northern Boulevard forms another thoroughfare, as Route 25A. Many motorists in the area use the two thoroughfares to use Queensboro Bridge, which does not charge tolls, to enter Manhattan, rather than the expressways that lead to toll crossings (Triboro Bridge, Queens-Midtown Tunnel) into Manhattan. Although that Mercedes-Benz E-class bears a California license plate (and judging from the plate frame, came from Southern California - "Walter's, Riverside"), that is not mine. I flew in (though I do wish to drive between California and New York sooner than later). Distance from Los Angeles to this spot: about 2,500 miles by air, 2,800 miles by car. From San Francisco, it is slightly more distant. I would finally make the drive here in October 2014 with my own car. |
