English: Queen Victoria Monument, Derby Square The Queen Victoria Monument stands in Derby Square, on the corner of Lord Street and Castle Street, on the site once occupied by the Liverpool Castle. It was unveiled in 1906, designed by F.M. Simpson, the first professor of architecture at Liverpool University. The monument is decorated with sculpture of the highest quality. The lower figures represent agriculture, commerce, education and industry while the upper ones represent wisdom, justice, charity and peace. On top of the dome stands the figure of Fame. |
