A watercolour showing a view of Loch Muick from the Glas-allt Shiel. The loch is shown in the foreground to the lower right, with some of the banks shown to the left. Steeply sloping hills are shown behind. Inscribed to the left of mounted sheet: Loch Muick from the Glassalt Oct 12 1867. While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 12 October 1867 the Queen went fishing at Loch Muick with her son Prince Leopold, daughter Princess Helena and son-in-law Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how at Loch Muick they "took our luncheon & some of the fish were broiled over an open fire, & were quite excellent... Lenchen [Princess Helena] & I sat & sketched".
