JPEG file comment | Parlor: The piano made by Emil Ascherberg from Dresden, Germany between 1865-1870, was aquired during her travels to Europe after the death of her son and husband. The piano was bought to Hawai'i on a sailing vessel around Cape Horn; The koa dining table and chairs are defined as “early mission” – very simple and solid and is one of the only pieces remaining from John Young II, a missionary who built the house and left it to Queen Emma. On the table is an imari porcelain jardinière given by Emperor Meiji to King Kalākaua; The koa cabinet displays three 3 feather capes which were worn across the shoulders of royal women and lesser chiefs. (No photography allowed inside the house.) |
