Summary
[edit]DescriptionQuay at Scarborough Old Harbour - geograph.org.uk - 1639374.jpg |
English: Quay at Scarborough Old Harbour To the right of the picture is a trawl net.
The row of black rubber disks (bobbins) are connected to the lower part of the mouth of the net, these are made from old tyres cut into discs and have a heavy chain running through them to weigh the net down. On top of them in the picture is a line of brightly coloured floats, these are connected to the upper part of the mouth of the trawl net and keep the mouth open during trawling. To keep the sides open are two steel or wood "otter boards" which are not shown in this picture. |
