Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Quartz
Locality: Araçuaí, Jequitinhonha valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil (Locality at mindat.org)
Size: cabinet, 12.6 x 8.6 x 6.8 cm
Citrine with Hoppered termination (new find!)
Natural citrine crystals are quite rare in nature, and most citrine available on the market is irradiated to produce the color, a ruddy orange. This amber color is natural, though. This specimen of citrine quartz has many things going for it. To start, this citrine is totally facetable! Next, it exhibits hoppered growth at the termination in teh form of a thin overhanging secondary growth atop the otherwise razor sharp termination...REALLY neat effect in person. I have never seen this in citrine quartz. Lastly, it displays a phantom of citrine growing inside the larger crystal. Also this gem crystal weighs 755 grams. It is spectacularly gemmy in person!!
