Summary
[edit]DescriptionQuarry Trails Park (Columbus, Ohio, USA) 1.jpg |
English: "Mass wasting" is the geologic term for all forms of landslides, rapid or slow. Many roadcuts and riverbanks are prone to small- and moderate-sized collapses events of rocks and soil. Especially vulnerable sites are often modified by people using various slope stability measures.
A commonly-used approach to erosion control is the dumping of boulders. Seen here is part of the Marblecliff Quarry in Columbus, Ohio that has been converted to a city park. The rocky rubble lining this channel is leftover limestone material from the quarry operation. The rocks are derived from the Columbus Limestone, a Middle Devonian shallow marine unit. Locality: Quarry Trails Park, Marblecliff Quarry (Marble Cliff Quarry), western side of Columbus, Franklin County, central Ohio, USA |
