Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Quarry Bank Mill Quarry Bank Mill with Styal Estate and Village is one of the most complete and least altered factory colonies of the Industrial Revolution. Founded in 1784 by a young textile merchant, Samuel Greg, it was one of the first generation of water-powered cotton spinning mills. Styal was chosen because of the suitable head of water provided by the River Bollin and its proximity to the Bridgewater Canal with raw material from Liverpool docks. Owned by the National Trust, Quarry Bank Mill is still a working cotton mill producing over 10,000 yards of cloth each year.
A view of the mill, similar to this, can be seen in the Hetty Wainthropp Investigates episode "For Love nor Money".
