Qalʿa-ye Doḵtar, obviously Ardašīr’s first residence, built at the same time as the round city, is a palace of royal dimensions in an extensive fortification on top of a mountain plateau in a bend of the Tang-āb which dominates the main access to the plain. The main palace rooms were arranged in a round donjon, standing in the main fortification line as another architectural symbol.
