ECWlMD, conducted fire pa-trol, since most of the citystelephones and fire-alarm cir-cuits were out. The followingamateurs participated in thisactivity: Wis AYG BIYDMS MD NMK SXN and W5HNW. In the New Bedford area, WlAVY/1 wasactivated on 75 meters and WlWKM on ten.The following operators were on watch at thesestations: Wis AEN* AGG* AVY* AWH* BMQ*CTZ* HPH* LAZ* MHN OH* TZU* UIDWU* WGN* and ZPE*. Those marked withan asterisk also operated mobile rigs when noton duty from one of the control stations. A totalof 538 messages was handled to and from thearea. New Bedford nets also tied into Fair-haven on ten meters, where about 15 mobileswere cooperating with local pohce and mili-tary. The Cape Cod-Islands Emergencj^ Net on3912 did a very fine job restricting traffic forCape and Islands. Other nets active were theDeep Sea Dragnet on 3970, TranscontinentalPhone Net on 3970 and the Early Bird Net on3845.
