Not many centuries ago, the system of government in Europe was absolutism, a system that began in the Middle Ages and in which society was segmented into social strata, with a King located at the top of the pyramid and below it. all the population separated by estates. The First Estate. It was the Church that as an Institution owned large tracts of land and had the privilege of not paying taxes. The most important clerics They came from the nobility. Most religious knew how to read and write and had some kind of education. The Second Estate. It was formed by the Nobility and by the high military commanders who also used to be nobles. Like the Church, they owned large tracts of land and enjoyed the privilege of not paying taxes. Most did not work and lived off the income provided by the peasants who worked their land. The Third Estate or Third Estate. It was made up of the rest of the population, which was the most numerous and the poorest. The majority were illiterate peasants who, since they did not own land, earned their living working those of the Church or those of the Nobles. The Most were not wage earners but paid rent to the owner and kept a part of the harvest. They had to pay taxes to the state. In the cities lived merchants and artisans who depended on the King to whom they paid taxes. It should be remembered that during the 16th and 17th centuries, more than 80% of the population lived in the countryside and worked in agriculture. Over time the percentage slowly decreased, but that tremendously unfair type of society was maintained for a long time because those at the top of the pyramid used all means to ensure that nothing changed (the Extractive Elites abhor change).Català: Actualment molts països gaudeixen de més llibertat que abans, però els progressos sempre han estat lents i difícils i s'han aconseguit gràcies a milers i milers d'herois anònims.
