Description
Deutsch: Blick auf die Innenflächen der beiden ungleichen Klappen eines Exemplars der gryphaeiden Muschel Pycnodonte (Phygraea) vesiculare (linke, stark konvexe Klappe links; rechte, flache Klappe rechts; dorsal bzw. die Schlossregion ist bei beiden Klappen oben rechts) aus den mürben Hochsee-Kalksteinen („Schreibkreide“) des Unter-Maastricht (Rügen-Member der Hemmoor-Formation) der Region um Sassnitz im Nordosten der Insel Rügen. Die großen einzelnen Schließmuskelansatzstellen sind deutlich zu erkennen. Der linken Klappe fehlt ein größeres Stück ihres Hinterteils. Man beachte die Dicke der Schale an der Bruchstelle.
English: Internal views of the two unequal valves of the Late Cretaceous gryphaeid bivalve Pycnodonte (Phygraea) vesiculare from the soft Lower Maastrichtian hemipelagic limestones (Rügen Member of Hemmoor Formation) of the Sassnitz area, Rügen Island, NE Germany (left, strongly convex valve to the left; right, flat valve to the right; dorsal or hinge region, respectively, is to the upper right in both valves). The large single scars of the shell adductor muscles are well visible. The left valve is lacking larger parts of its posterior portion. Note the thickness of the shell at the fracture.
